My friend, the End.
The End waits patiently, just behind a thin veil.
I feel it pressed up against each moment.
Terrifying at first, it is now my gentle companion.
Every breath of life, every embrace
more vivid, full, and precious against the shadow
like a dazzling theatre screen in a darkened room.
All that is unimportant fades into the abyss
leaving only what is simple and true.
I am grateful to you, my friend, the End.
Death truly is life-giving.

Our emotions influence our perception of ourselves and reality. How can we consciously navigate through our emotions, see with clearer eyes, and make wiser decisions? The Nyingma Buddhists figured it out, and distilled their insights into a practical tool called “The Cycle of Emotions”. I've personally been using this tool daily for almost 10 years and it's helped me tremendously.
I was invited to give a talk about this at Applied Rationality Toronto, and I've shared the slides with additional commentary in this post. Hoping that more folks can benefit from it!
